Hey Afaconados!
In case you haven’t noticed the emerging theme for this week, I’m trying to prepare you all for the upcoming fall season. That includes giving you tips on packing up those summer clothes, determining key summer pieces that can be used for layering and purchasing some of the season’s hottest new trends!
One of the things I noticed very quickly during my recent trip to New York was that a lot of the girls were wearing brocade fabrics. That included anything from tops to pants. Although we’re not quite into fall yet, those girls have the right idea because brocade is going to be HUGE this fall. Yet another reason why New York is one of the fashion capitals of the world….the people there stay on top of the trends!
If you’re going to incorporate brocade into your fall and winter wardrobes, just remember that it’s not a very breathable fabric and doesn’t move easily. The fabric is actually kind of course and stiff…but gorgeous when worn with items that mesh well with it. To compliment brocade pants, try wearing a boyfriend top (tucked in of course) buttoned all the way up and add some nerd glasses for effect. For brocade skirts, you can wear something as simple as a turtleneck and tights…which makes for a very elegant look. In the Middle Ages, brocade was a fabric worn by nobility throughout China, Japan, Greece and Korea…so it’s not a cheap fabric, and we all know that means items made out of it will cost a pretty penny.
Here are some examples:
I’d definitely say it’s worth it this fall to have at least one or two brocade pieces in your wardrobe. How would you style your brocade pieces?
Until next time!
