Well, it looks like anyone who may have believed that Atlanta’s second round of snow and ice wouldn’t be worse than the first round, was wrong. At least with our first round of snow, I was able to make it down the stairs to walk my dog in the morning. The stairs in my neighborhood are made of metal and concrete and right now they’re completely covered in ice. I had the pleasure of slipping and falling down those stairs during my first winter here and it was NOT fun. If you plan to venture out at all during this mess, I urge you to be safe and drive (and walk) VERY slowly.
I’ve mentioned in previous articles (like THIS ONE) that I am completely in love with Plaid and probably have too much of it in my closet. Well, thanks to another visit to my neighborhood thrift store, I’ve added something in plaid that I’ve never had before…a Plaid Blazer! I’ve always wanted one of these, but could never find one I liked enough to buy. That could have been because I was looking in places like J. Crew where a blazer can easily set you back $150. It’s funny how quickly you can stop liking something when you see how much it costs, isn’t it? LOL! My vintage plaid blazer only set me back $15…how’s that for a price comparison?
Plaid blazers can be tricky to wear. If you’re not careful with: 1) The cut of the blazer, 2) The color of the plaid or 3) Which other patterns you pair your blazer with, you may run the risk of either appearing heavier than you really are OR you’ll just look tacky altogether. Remember what I said about Print Mixing in this article, you absolutely CAN mix other prints with plaid but they MUST play well together. If you do mix prints with a plaid blazer, be subtle with it so that the mixture isn’t overbearing (EX: Pair a plaid blazer with leopard print flats). You can’t go wrong with a pair of boyfriend jeans and a solid tank either….which leads me to my look of the day. Oh! My dog Basil decided to make another appearance on the blog today…I swear sometimes I really wonder just WHO the master is. LOL!
Here’s my look:

NOTE: The first picture in this set is INTERACTIVE and SHOPPABLE
I don’t know about you, but I’m really loving plaid blazers right about now. Spring is right around the corner, so if you’re going to get one…better hurry!
How would you wear a plaid blazer? Would you rock it with a solid print? Or would you try a Print Mix?
Until next time!

Hello Hadrien! Thanks so much, I’m glad you like them!
Natalie says
I LOVE plaid! My husband laughs at me because sometimes I want to wear my plaid kilt, tam, and scarf (all in the Royal Stewart tartan) together! I don’t (because I would look ridiculous) but it’s just so pretty and colorful. I’m a firm believer that a pop of plaid makes every outfit look better. I love your blazer!
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Thanks so much Natalie! I love kilts!
Meeghan says
You do rock that blazer! Of course…I think you would look great in just about anything. You do bring up great tips, though -to look out for so that you rock the look, and not look frumpy. Thanks!
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Thank you Meeghan!
Rebecca @ Love at First Book says
Super cute and looooove your shoes! I am not brave enough for the plaid 😀
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Hi Rebecca! Thank you! Believe me, I wasn’t either 🙂
Angie Young says
Wow I love that blazer. The colors of it are perfect. Not too overwhelming like some plaids tend to be. And the way you paired it with a solid shirt and jeans is just my style.
Oh and your puppy is just adorable. I bet he is spoiled rotten.
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Hi Angie! Thanks so much! OMG, he is SO spoiled! LOL!
Val @ Love My DIY Home says
You are right, the blazer is cute! I would wear it with jeans too. I never considered plaid but after seeing it on you as a blazer I’ll definitely give it a try.
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Hi Val! I can’t wait to visit your blog! Thanks so much for the comment! I’m with you, a plaid blazer would have never been my first choice either but I saw a photo recently of someone wearing one and thought I’d give it a try!
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Thanks so much Val!
Tink says
You look great in the plaid blazer. Unfortunately I am much to short to really carry if off well. But if I do, I go the route you took in this post. I love the combination of the distressed jeans, yellow T and red plaid blazer. The flats are perfect compliment to whole ensemble.
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Thank you Tink! I love that name! I’m only 5’4 so I know how you feel about wearing certain things. I’m sure you’d look great in this blazer!
Lalia @ Found Frolicking says
Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever worn plaid in my life! If I were going to though, I would definitely pair it with a solid print. I’m not very adventurous and tend to wear solid colors, and occasionally simple patterns. The funny thing is, my mother is more adventurous with clothing than I am!
A lot of people seem to look down upon thrift shopping, but it’s a way to find really amazing things. In my teens, the majority of my clothes came from thrift stores. There’s nothing better than finding incredible stuff that just happens to fit you, and for a bargain, too! Thrift shopping is awful where I’m currently living, but when I move back to the bay area it’s something I’ll start doing again. Thanks for sharing!
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Hi Lalia! I never used to be adventurous either. Lol! Lately I’ve just wanted to step outside my comfort zone more and I’m glad I did, even though it’s scary. Lol! Thanks so much for your comment!
Jennifer at Purposeful Nutrition says
I don’t think I would wear a plaid blazer but it looks great on you.
I love your dog too.
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Thank you Jennifer!
Pam says
So cute! Love your style – comfortable yet not sloppy!
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Thanks so much Pam!
stacey says
You look FAB-U-LOUS! Love the plaid blazer and the blue flats. I’ve always been intimidated by plaid, but I think you might have encouraged me to give it a try again. BTW – cute dog!
-Stacey
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Hi Stacey! Yay! I love the idea of making people re-think clothing they wouldn’t normally wear. Plaid is bold, and definitely not easy to wear, but when it looks good…it looks GREAT! I say Go For It! Thanks so much for your comment! Oh! and I’ll be sure to pass on the compliment to Basil…he loves getting compliments!
HilLesha says
I normally don’t get into plaid, but that is a gorgeous plaid blazer. Such a great find! I love thrifting, too – never know what you’ll find. 🙂
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Hi HiLesha! Thank you! I never got into plaid either until I saw someone else wearing it and loved it. The fact that it’s thrifted made it even better!
Lisa {Amateur Nester} says
Very cute! Wish I could pull that off! Stopping by from Blogelina Commentathon
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Hi Lisa! Thank you!
Jennifer says

Thank you Jennifer!
Katherine Petrunia says
Way to be stylish AND budget friendly! Two of my favourite things! 😉 I love thrift store shopping for the same reasons you do- I love hunting for items that I can combine with things I already have and make them look like I paid a whole lot more. In a way, I prefer that kind of shopping- and my husband likes the price! 😉 I like mixing patterns, but depends on my mood. I like how you pulled off the blazer you found. And love those shoes- the colour really makes the blazer pop! Can’t wait to see what else you put together!
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Hi Katherine! Thanks so much! When you grow up as 1 of 6 children with very little money, you learn how to shop. Lol! Now I thrift because I truly love the hunt. There’s an art to it. Lol! Thanks so much for your lovely comment!
Jessi Fearon (@TheBudgetMama) says
Love it!!!! One, you’re gorgeous and you totally rock that blazer! I agree, that plaid is such an awesome print but when paired wrong it can be disastrous! Thank you so much for sharing your amazing style and as a fellow Georgian, I can tell you that yes that second round was way worse than the first. At least we had ‘real’ snow that time!
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Hi Jessi! Thank you! You totally get me! Lol! Yes! The second round of snow really was a doozie!
vwbug says
You look awesome in that plaid blazer. I love blazers and now must look out for a plaid one. I have the jeans and solid tops… hmmm… though I don’t have any outfits for my dog. 🙂 Your dog is a cutie too.
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Hi there! Thank you SO much! Basil loves his clothes. Lol! If you’re looking for plaid blazers, check out eBay!

I, too, love Plaid, but I never think about looking for clothing pieces made of this fabric.
I love the look you created, it’s great for nearly any occasion, and i really like your little friend–it looks like he loves the outfit, too. 😉
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Thank you Nicole! It’s definitely a fabric you have to be careful with, but it’s so fun to wear! Thanks so much for your comment!
Faith Still says
Cute blazer. You are good at accessorizing too. I am such a busy Mom, that I don’t get too fashionable. With Spring around the corner I’ll have to try some fun things for Spring.
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Thank you Faith! Spring is so fun! I’m sure you’ll come up with some fantastic looks!
Megin says

Tanya says
I love that plaid blazer on you. I don’t think I could pull it off. I like the dog too!
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Hi Tanya! Thank you!
Tamara says
The blazer looked great on you. I have absolutely no fashion sense, so I would be terrified to even try to wear a plaid blazer. I normally just wear solids. Seems safer for me. Ha!
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Hi Tamara! I completely understand that. It’s not easy stepping outside of your comfort zone. Thanks so much for the lovely comment!
Marisa Slusarcyk says
You look great! The doggie needs a matching outfit 😀
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Thank you Marisa! I wish I had one for him. Lol!

Kemi Quinn says
I have a plaid blazer! But mine is shorter. Longer than bolero length. Not sure what you call that but it hits my waist. It is cute and I don’t wear it enough.
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Hi Kemi! Thank you for your comment! I hope you get to wear you blazer soon!
Liz Lewis says
This blazer rocks and so do you! I connected with you on all your social media sites. I’ll definitely be looking at your blog on the daily now.
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Hi Liz! Thank you so much! I’m now following you as well! Look forward to seeing more on your blog!

Love your style girl! I was a bit confused when you wrote about the awful weather and then they were such beautiful photos! The weather in your photos made me jealous 🙂 Would suggest a few less photos because I found myself scrolling past the last few to see if there was anything else. Keep up the awesome work!
Johnnalynn Lynch says
Hi Jaclyn! Thank you for visiting and thanks so much for the advice!
