Hey Everyone!
A little over a week ago, this same article was published as a guest post by Eboni of The Fashionista Next Door. I’d love for you all to check out her blog when you have a moment, she’s got GREAT style! I’ve been blogging now for almost 2 years, and as popular as do it yourself posts are, I’ve never actually tried one until now. I think my hesitation has always been that it would be too hard to create something on my own. As a person who was raised around women who did nothing but sew all the time, I should be ashamed of myself. LOL!
When I decided that I would do a DIY post, I immediately knew that I wanted to make a scarf because I’m absolutely addicted to them! But the key for me, was to make something that was super easy, would not take too many materials and that would be practical for everyday wear. A few years back, I purchased a multi-strand scarf from Urban Outfitters for $29. Now how ridiculous is that price for a few pieces of string? Well today, I’m going to show you how easy it is to make your own No Sew DIY multi-strand scarf for $0. It can’t get any cheaper than that!
Here’s what you’ll need:
-
One t-shirt that you don’t mind cutting up (the larger the better, I used an XL)
-
A pair of scissors
-
Ruler (optional)
Here’s what you do:
Step One: Lay your t-shirt on a flat, hard surface and smooth out any wrinkles.
Step Two: Begin by cutting just the hem at the bottom of the t-shirt. Then, you can either use your ruler to measure strips that are 1-2 inches wide OR you can eyeball it like I did if you don’t have a ruler. Cut as many strips of the same size as you can get before making it up to the armpits of the t-shirt, and be sure to try keeping a steady hand while cutting.
Step Three: Then, take each strip EXCEPT the hem at the bottom, and stretch them apart until they begin to fold inward. The fabric of the t-shirt will naturally curl once you begin to stretch the strips. Be sure not to stretch to the point of snapping the strips.
Step Four: Take your scissors and cut the strip that used to be the hem of the t-shirt. It will become one long string at this point.
Step Five: Then, using that long piece of string, begin to wrap it around the center of the scarf to hold it together, making sure to meet both ends so that you can tie and knot them. Once you’ve knotted the two ends, be sure to tuck away any loose ends and cut away stray pieces of the string.
When complete it should look like this:
Here I am wearing my scarf:
There you have it! A great no sew DIY multi-strand scarf that won’t cost you a dime and that you can throw on with your favorite top! I promise, I’ve never done this before and it was SO easy!
Have you ever created your own No Sew DIY Multi-Strand Scarf?
Until next time!
