Remembering Dad on Father’s Day…
Hey Everyone,
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you already know that on September 1, 2014, my father Vernal Lynch passed away. In a previous post, I shared some of the details about the events that took place that day. Even now, I feel like that was the hardest post I’ve ever had to write. It forced me to remember how heartbroken I felt now that he’s gone. As a matter of fact, nothing has changed. I still have days when I might hear a song he liked or see a movie he used to watch on TV and it sets me off. No one will ever now how much I cry or have cried because I don’t really share it with anyone. One thing I’ve learned in all of this is that grief is difficult to overcome. It’s not impossible though.
Remembering a loved one that you’ve lost doesn’t always have to be so sad. If you vow to at least try and focus on the good memories you’d be surprised at how you feel. You may even find yourself laughing out loud as I have. My dad used to do some really silly things and he had THE best sense of humor. He and I could literally talk to each other without saying a word! That connection we had is definitely worth smiling about. For me, remembering dad on Father’s Day will be easier this year. How?
I plan to do at least one or more of the following tips below:
- Tell Someone a Story About Him – I’ve actually already started this one. I’ve taken every opportunity I can to share stories about my father with my boyfriend. I can’t tell you how much I wish my father could have met him, they would have been great friends.
- Pull Out the Throwback Photos – This is a good one. There are even hashtags dedicated to it. Looking at throwback photos is always a great way to make someone smile.
- Watch Old Home Movies if You Have Them – I’m so thankful that I have old videos of my father. There’s nothing like seeing him walking and talking again.
- Share Something Your Dad Taught You with Someone New – I love this one so much! My father is the reason why I have such a great love for music and the arts. I live every day of my life as a blogger sharing my art with people. Between the photos that I take myself as an amateur photographer or the words I write on a blog post, I’m consistently sharing that with you all. 🙂
- Talk to Your Dad – Don’t feel dumb about this. I promise you, I’ve done it and it helps me to feel better. You can either write down what you want to say or put it in a card. Feel free to talk about anything you would normally talk to your father about!
Speaking of throwback photos, here are a few of mine:
I truly hope each and every one of you enjoys Father’s Day with your dad, whether he’s still with you or not. 🙂
Have any of you lost your father? How will you be remembering dad on Father’s Day?
Until next time…
