Hey Afaconados!
Every morning when I’m getting ready for work I watch Starting Point with Soledad O’brien. Soledad is my girl…love her to death! As part of her program, she has a segment called “Get Real” which is a discussion of topics that are either controversial or just plain crazy.
Recently on Get Real, Soledad mentioned how big name designers like Gucci, Lanvin and Marni (to name a few) are beginning to cater more towards toddlers, designing clothing and accessories for the little darlings at OUTLANDISH prices. I mean c’mon….a Gucci backpack for $800?! Or a leopard print puffy coat by Lanvin for $1,060?! I’ve heard of crazy things, but this is just RIDICULOUS. By definition, a “Toddler” is “A young child who is just beginning to walk” which means the child is just beginning to form words…not sentences…but SINGLE WORDS like “Mama” and “Daddy”.
I know I can’t tell anyone how to raise their children or how to clothe and feed them, but I really have to ask…what do we teach our kids when we do things like this? How do we teach them to be humble and not look down upon others when they are wearing something that costs more than what a lot of people pay for rent? I’m all about Fashion, don’t get me wrong, and I love designer names (at reasonable prices of course) but I can guarantee that my children won’t know who or what a Marc Jacobs is until he or she is a teenager.
I’d love to know what you all think…comments are MORE than welcome!
Until next time!
