Hey Everyone!
When I started StushiGal Style in 2012, I had no idea what I was doing. I knew I loved fashion and that I wanted to be part of the fashion community. I also knew that as a Jamaican, I offered a unique perspective on fashion. Jamaicans are very bold and unafraid to take risks. It’s one of the things I love the most about my culture. I never thought in a million years that StushiGal Style would be successful. I can’t tell you how proud I am of what it has become. As with any venture, there’s always hope that it will evolve into something more. For me, it was a natural progression. My tagline has always been, “Style…from a prissy Jamaican girl’s point of view”.
Now that you guys have seen my take on style, it’s time for me to expound on that. There are a lot of things that make Jamaicans fun and interesting. One of the things that sticks out the most is the way we speak. I’m sure you’ve seen movies and shows where the actors try to talk like a Jamaican. Although most of them aren’t any good at it, that doesn’t make it any less fun to try. Believe me, being in a room full of Jamaicans can be very confusing. Especially when they speak fast. In thinking of that, I had an idea to create a line of t-shirts that I call “Patois Tees”. Patois is a dialect spoken by Jamaicans. We definitely speak English, but the words are pronounced differently. Through the StushiGal Style brand, I hope to bridge the gap between regular English and the Jamaican dialect. I’m very excited today to present one of my Patois Tees. I will be launching this summer, but wanted to start giving a preview of the designs.
In patois, the t-shirt I’m wearing below says, “Look Pon Dat Gyal Deh”. I know you’re probably like, “Huh?” LOL! What it means in English is simply, “Look At That Girl Over There”. This phrase is typically used when a guy notices a beautiful girl.
Here’s my look:

Be sure to stay tuned this week because I’ll be previewing two more designs! My website will be coming this summer and I can’t wait! I hope you all like what I’ve got to show you this week!
Are there any patois words or phrases you’d like to see featured as part of the StushiGal Style brand?
Until next time…
