Hey Afaconados!
For a while now, my nephew and I have talked about taking pictures in front of a graffiti background. I was born in 1977, which means I grew up in the 80’s. And you know what was popular in the 80’s right? Well, let me school all of you that don’t know…it was the era of B-Boying, also called, Breakdancing! And one of the best things to come out of that era…was Graffiti!
As someone who grew up in a time when these things were at the height of their popularity, I can honestly say, they had a profound influence on me that will never go away. My dad is an artist (in so many ways), so I’ve always been a lover of various forms of art. I appreciate Graffiti especially, because it was a way for the urban youth of that time to express themselves. It was their outlet. Just like B-Boying was like fighting…only you used your body to fight the battle instead of your fists. It’s pretty cool if you think about it. What if we all settled our issues with each other by having a dance off? LOL!
Today’s outfit is inspired by that era. My nephew and I had the best time shooting these pictures. I swear all I needed was a beat box and I probably would’ve started break dancing out there myself. LOL! I’m not sure who in Atlanta goes around doing the Graffiti, but I thank you so much for giving me a great background to work with.
**For any of you who have never heard of B-Boying, Breakdancing or Graffiti…your homework is to rent “Breakin” and “Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo”. 🙂
