In a previous post, I talked about 5 styling tips for educators getting ready to head back to school. After publishing that post, I was asked by some of my readers to do more professional looks. My goal is to eventually start doing one professional look per week. So to kick it off, I thought I’d talk a bit about polishing off a professional look with elegant pieces of jewelry. I’ve mentioned before that I’m a fan of all things vintage. So imagine my surprise when I discovered Admiral Row, an Atlanta based jewelry store that features both new AND vintage jewelry. Since 2012, Admiral Row has been on a mission to provide women with accessories that let you stand out from the crowd! UPDATE: From now until November 26th, please enjoy 15% off of your purchase when you use the code: STUSHIGAL15.
When it comes to finishing off a professional look, there are a few ground rules you should follow. Please note that these rules do not apply to casual work environments.
- Don’t Go Overboard – My rule of thumb for wearing jewelry in more corporate work environments is to always take off at least one piece of jewelry before leaving the house. Remember, when it comes to being in a work environment, less is more.
- Don’t Wear More Than One Bold Piece – If you plan to wear a bold statement piece, keep it down to one. It’s perfectly okay to wear a chunky necklace. Adding additional statement pieces will only detract from your professional appearance. When at work, it’s important for people to pay more attention to you than to your jewelry.
- Be Mindful of Color – While wearing bright colored pieces is okay, be mindful of colors like neon that are just way too extreme. I would also be cautious when it comes to wearing lots of different colors together.
For my professional look today, I’m wearing the Vintage Studded Cable Chain Necklace from Admiral Row. Since this is a bold piece, I went more conservative with my other accessories.
Here’s my look:
