Hey Everyone,
As a Fashion Blogger I’ve had the opportunity to review a variety of items from clothing and jewelry to beauty and hair products. It’s rare that I have a chance to let my readers in on my personal life and that’s probably because the things I usually write about have nothing to do with it. Until now, that is. Today’s post is a dedication to celebrating the anchor in your life this Father’s Day. If you’re one of my new readers you may not know that in September of last year, I lost my father to Prostate Cancer. To say that life has NOT been the same since he passed away would be an understatement. I had never lost anyone close to me before. So you can imagine what it must have been like to lose one of the most important people in my life. It was an unbearable journey I could have never prepared for, and there are days when I’m not sure I will ever stop crying.
As Father’s Day approaches, it hurts to know that from this year forward, my family and I won’t get to spend another Father’s Day with my dad. That doesn’t mean I can’t remember him though. It also doesn’t mean that I can’t celebrate Father’s Day with other special men in my life. All four of my brothers are amazing fathers…and then, there’s my Uncle Barry. What can I tell you about my Uncle Barry? Wow. I can tell you that the first words I thought of after typing his name were: Honest, Loving, Loyal and Selfless. With all that my family and I have been through in the past year, he has become our anchor.
On the day my father died, my Uncle Barry drove me to the funeral home to make my father’s final arrangements. As weak as I think I am, my brothers and sisters felt that I was the only one emotionally equipped to handle the task (and what a task it was). There was no way I could have gotten through it without my uncle by my side. That’s what an anchor does. Where I was weak, he was strong. He got me through the dreadful details with the funeral director, and then as soon as we got through the doors of the funeral home, he hugged me and let me cry. He told me I did a good job and that my father would have been proud. No words I write will ever be able to express how much I appreciate my Uncle Barry for that moment, and for all he has done since then.
I’m honored to be celebrating my Uncle Barry as the anchor in my life this Father’s Day. When it came to finding the perfect gift, I wanted to get something that captured the essence of the wonderful man he is. For that reason, I’ll be giving him the Nautica Voyage Gift Set. The Nautica “Gentle Man” is a man who loves building real connections with his family and friends, and who is a good guy that you can count on. The Nautica Voyage fragrance represents the man who is on a journey, actively pursuing his dreams. The fragrance is fresh, cool, aquatic and exudes undeniable masculinity. I couldn’t think of a better gift for my uncle.
