Hey Afaconados!
I’m very happy to present to you an article written by Aisha Malik of Aab Collection. Aisha reached out to me via email recently to express an interest in writing a guest post for my blog. I am honored to have Aisha present to you all how her website, focused on “Modest Fashion” for Muslim women, is helping to move fashion of this type forward!
Please read and enjoy her article (NOTE: All photos are courtesy of the Aab Collectionwebsite):
Muslim women have always dressed in a modest manner, but until recently it has been difficult to call the styles that they favored ‘fashion.’ Of course, what women chose to wear was in respect of the teachings of their faith, and it just so happened that there was not a great deal of options available for dressing in a conservative, modest manner.
However, in recent years there has been a huge shift in the way in which Islamic women dress, mainly because there is now a range of different fashions and styles available for them to wear, while still observing the teachings of Allah and the Koran with regards to modest style. Aab Collection has been one of the leaders in this respect, and has done much to push new Islamic fashions into the mainstream.
Here is a look at how Aab Collection has managed to achieve this:
Their Mission
What Aab Collection set out to do initially was simple. Their mission was to create a range of modest yet stylish clothes that could be worn by the modern Muslim woman. Their specific target market was the woman who has multiple roles in contemporary society, who might have a full-time job, be a parent, and have a busy community and social life at the same time.
One key thing that they have done to make modest, stylish clothing so accessible is focus on a limited number of items, such as kaftan dresses, hijabs, and abayas, for example, helping women to develop a ‘concept’ wardrobe where they have a few great interchangeable pieces rather than having to spend a fortune on dozens of garments.
Moving Forward
Think of modest pieces that have been historically linked with Islam, and you think of garments such as the niqab, or the burka, that were great for modesty, but failed miserably when we think in terms of comfort and practical use.
Aab Collectionhas proudly moved modest fashion towards something that satisfies these additional attributes. Not only do their ranges satisfy the definition of modesty, they are highly desirable items and represent great pieces of fashion. What is an item of clothing, after all, if people do not want to wear it, or are unable to see the benefits of them wearing it?
‘Stylishly simple’ is a phrase that the company uses a lot, and it is one that can be seen in all of their modest fashions.
Looking Further
Aab Collection has taken common elements of contemporary Western fashion and included it within its ranges, meaning a lot of their modest clothes resemble what you might find in a popular boutique. Hijabs, although traditional greys and navy blues are available, come with color and patterns, so that they can add a different twist to an outfit whether you are wearing a kaftan dress or a pair of jeans and a cardigan.
Modest Islamic fashion is moving further towards great style while remaining true to its roots and faith, and Aab Collection are one of the leaders in this respect, inspiring Muslim women around the world with quality designs.

Hi! You can’t go wrong at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York! In 2009, they dedicated an entire exhibition to gothic fashion. The exhibition featured 75 designers which included Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Rodarte, Galliano and Commes des Garçons among many others. That school has produced so many talented designers. Best of Luck to you!
