Hey Afaconados!
I finally decided to do a post about men’s fashion. It’s been a long time coming hasn’t it? I know I’m not a guy (obviously), and I have to admit that aside from knowing how I like to see men dressed, I don’t have any experience with men’s fashion. I do, however, have male friends that know I have a fashion blog and I had a conversation with some of them recently about skinny jeans and/or “modern fit” or “slim fit” jeans.
The male skinny jeans trend is pretty big in the United States nowadays, but it’s actually been a trend for quite a while in Europe. The question I asked of my male friend Myles was this, “How do you feel about wearing skinny jeans?” His answer (which I must say was a little unexpected) was: “I own a pair of skinny jeans. I don’t like to put myself in a box, so if I think something looks good, I’ll buy it”. The usual answer I get from guys is that skinny jeans fit too closely to the body, that they’re made for women and not meant for men, or that they don’t think they would look good in them. When I heard the latter comment, I have to say it was refreshing to hear that men have some of the same insecurities as women do when it comes to how their clothing fits them.
Let’s face it, most guys don’t have the body type to wear skinny jeans (sorry guys) and some would just rather stay away from them altogether. My take on skinny jeans for men is that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wearing them if you have the body type to wear them. Celebrities like Daniel Craig, David Beckham, Zac Efron, Kanye West and Justin Timberlake all look great in them! Look at how awesome they all look:
I found a few examples on ShopStyle for today’s post that I think would look great on all of you guys who want to attempt to pull off this look (and can). 🙂 Here they are:
As you can see, I didn’t choose skinny jeans that were too tight. The advice from my friend Myles was that they look cool as long as they’re not too tight. I don’t think anyone can say that any of the celebs pictured above don’t look stylish in those jeans. As a guy, would you wear skinny jeans?
Until next time!

Hello Miss Lynch
I Enjoyed reading your article Skinny jeans. As I have been looking for female opinions. Interestingly all the looks you picked as “nice” are what we call slim/straight, that preserve a rectangular silhouette from shoulder to ankle. Where skinny jeans tend to touch skin throughout the length of the leg and end up giving us an upside down triangular figure, notice that photographs of Russell Brandt always show him in a wide stance for the purpose of the camera (Rock Star pose).
This trend to narrower jeans is really difficult for us guys to find a flattering Jeans that fits well. The perfect jeans must fit the waist, crotch (rise), posterior (gape and yoke), thighs (drap vs pinch), calves and inseam (match width of the jeans at the knee and calf.
The perfect pair of men’s jeans has to fit all six criteria and since most of those can not be altered this makes it the most difficult garment for us guys to find. Since many people now shop online without visiting the fitting room. I believe this is why so many of us guys get the fit so wrong, even worse when the ladies in our lives shop online based on waist size and photographs.
