Hey Afaconados!
From as far back as I can remember, I have been an avid fan of all things vintage…clothing, accessories, furniture…you name it! So I thought I'd start involving you guys in my hunt for specific vintage items by featuring an item each week that I'm on the hunt for. This week's obsession is the Fair Isle Sweater.
The Fair Isle knitting technique is a form of knitting that involves creating patterns in multiple colors. The technique is named after a small island in North Scotland, where it originated. The unique pattern gained popularity in the 1920s when the Prince of Wales (Edward VIII) began wearing tops knitted using the technique out into the public. I recently did a Style Snatch on Sarah Jessica Parker where she was wearing a fair isle sweater with a tuxedo blazer. I think that look was what inspired me to start a search for one of my own. And being the difficult person I am, I want an "authentic" fair isle sweater which means vintage is the only way to go (and of course I don't mind that). 🙂
While I enjoy searching for vintage clothing in the actual stores, when you're looking for something as specific as this it's best to just go to a site like eBay or Etsy to start your search because they will always have a larger selection.
Here are some of my favorite picks:
Retro 80s Fair Isle Sweater – $18 at Etsy
Mustard, Yellow and Blue 1950s Fair Isle Sweater – $68 at Etsy
1970s Irish Wool Hand Loomed Fair Isle Sweater – $44 at Etsy
80s Fair Isle Sweater – $28 at Etsy
Vintage Fresno Jean Company Fair Isle Sweater – $18 at Etsy
Fair Isle Sweater Vintage 1980s – $28 at Etsy
I'm in love with every one of these so it's going to be hard for me to narrow down which one I want. I hope some of you are inspired to get a Vintage Fair Isle Sweater of your own!
Until next time!
